Ladyburn 1974 — 40 Year Old (Private Cask Collection)
Lowland Single Malt | 48.6% ABV | First‑Fill Bourbon | 157 Bottles
Appearance - Deep antique gold with amber flashes. Slow, syrupy legs reflecting four decades in cask
Aroma - A beautifully mature, quietly luxurious Lowland profile: Marzipan and bitter liquorice leading the nose. Layers of oily richness, linseed oil, and soft creaminess. Gentle aloe vera and a lift of citrus zestWith a splash of water: Madeira cake, candyfloss, and delicate floral notes emerging
Palate - Silky, creamy, and deeply composed. The marzipan from the nose carries through beautifully. Notes of vanilla, aniseed, and warm peppery spiceSubtle herbal complexity — sage, tamarind — adding depth. A faint, elegant wisp of smoke on the back palate
Finish - Long, peppery, and herb‑laced. Lingering oak and soft spice, fading with quiet authority
Drawn from a single first‑fill bourbon cask, giving purity, creaminess, and refined sweetness. Ladyburn’s fleeting existence (1966–1975) makes this one of the rarest Lowland malts ever bottled. A whisky defined by elegance, maturity, and subtle complexity, not power.
