1963 J&B Knockando Extra Old Reserve
Fine Single Malt • Distilled 1963 • Bottled 1985 • Speyside
Appearance - Deep antique gold with bronze glints — the colour of long, quiet maturation in well‑seasoned oak.
Nose - A beautifully mature, classic Speyside profile: Honeycomb, light toffee, and polished malt. Dried apricot, sultana, and a touch of orange oil. Soft oak resin, walnut, and a faint old‑library must that signals true age. A whisper of heather and gentle smoke, typical of 1960s distillation.
Palate - Silky, composed, and unmistakably from another era:Mature malt, buttered brioche, and caramelised citrus. Stewed orchard fruit—apple, pear, quince—layered with almond, hazelnut, and vanilla pod. Mid‑palate brings light spice (nutmeg, clove), oak polish, and a subtle waxiness reminiscent of old Knockando vintages. A soft, warming depth without aggression; the 1963 spirit shows its pedigree.
Finish - Long, mellow, and quietly luxurious: Honeyed malt, dried fruit, and orange peel. Lingering oak spice, cocoa, and a final touch of almond skin.
A rare, beautifully preserved Speyside malt from the early 1960s — honeyed malt, dried fruit, polished oak, and gentle spice wrapped in a silky, mature structure.
“A refined 1963 Knockando with honeyed malt, dried fruit, and polished oak — elegant, mellow, and unmistakably old‑school Speyside.”
