1980s Glendullan 12 Year Old Single Malt (43% ABV) — a Speyside classic from the Macdonald Greenlees era, bottled before DCL’s consolidation of the distillery.
Nose: Elegant and mellow. Opens with honeyed malt, orchard fruit (apple, pear), and a touch of heather. Beneath that, gentle oak spice and butterscotch mingle with faint waxiness, typical of older Speyside bottlings from refill sherry and ex-bourbon casks.
Palate: Rounded and medium-bodied. Notes of vanilla fudge, light toffee, and sweet barley lead into citrus peel and almond. The 43% strength gives it a soft, creamy mouthfeel, with subtle oak tannins and a whisper of ginger warmth.
Finish: Longer than expected for its age — malty, slightly nutty, with lingering honey and oak spice. A faint mineral dryness closes the experience gracefully.
Best Enjoyed Neat or with a few drops of water to open the fruit and wax notes
This vintage Glendullan shows the understated charm of pre-modern Speyside — gentle, balanced, and quietly complex.
