Let’s delve into the 2007 The English Distillery Chapter 3 Single Malt Spirit. 

Founded by James and Andrew Nelstrop, The English Distillery is located near the Norfolk town of Thetford. Impressively, they source their barley, yeast, and water (the three essential ingredients for whisky production) from within England, making this a truly English spirit. It’s worth noting that The English Distillery holds the distinction of being England’s oldest registered whisky distillery.

In December 2009, they achieved a significant milestone by releasing the first legal English whisky in over a century. Prior to settling on the name The English Distillery, their single malt whiskies were released under a few different names, including The English Whisky Co. and St. George’s Distillery.

The early releases under The English Whisky Co. name were assigned chronological chapter numbers, although chapters 1-4 were not technically whiskies since they hadn’t been aged for the required minimum of 3 years. The distillery manager, David Fitt, who previously worked for Greene King, spent valuable time learning from Iain Henderson (formerly of Laphroaig) before assuming his current role
