Disaronno Originale is an amaretto liqueur produced in Saronno, Italy, by ILLVA Saronno. It has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 28% and is characterized by its amber color and unique flavor profile, which is often described as almond-like, although it does not actually contain almonds. Instead, it is made from an infusion of apricot kernel oil, along with a blend of 17 herbs and fruits.

History

Originally named Amaretto di Saronno, the liqueur has been produced since at least 1525. The story goes that a young innkeeper inspired the artist Bernardino Luini, who created a fresco in the Saronno church, leading to the creation of this iconic liqueur. In 2001, the brand was rebranded as Disaronno Originale for marketing purposes.

Disaronno is known for its sweet, rich flavor that evokes marzipan, with notes of orange zest, dried fruits, and caramelized sugar. The texture is smooth and mouth-filling, making it a versatile ingredient in cocktails, such as the Amaretto Sour, or enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
