Ardbeg Dark Cove — Committee Release (2016)
Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Islay, Scotland
ABV: 55% (Committee Release)
Cask Influence: Ex‑bourbon + “dark sherry” casks
Style: Deep, smoky, sherried, atmospheric Islay
Appearance - Polished mahogany with ruby flashes — the colour alone signals dense sherry influence and brooding depth.
Nose - A dramatic, shadowy Ardbeg nose: Dark chocolate, molasses, treacle toffee. Smouldering peat, charcoal, tarred rope, damp earth. A surge of dried fruits — raisins, dates, black plum. Spiced edges of nutmeg, ginger, clove, and cracked pepper. A coastal lift of seaweed, salt spray, and smoke‑soaked citrus peel. It’s richer and more sherry‑forward than Uigeadail, with a slightly savoury, almost meaty undertone.
Palate - Full‑bodied, oily, and intensely layered. Black treacle, burnt sugar, espresso grounds. Smoked ham, charred oak, creosote, embers. A wave of dark fruit compote — blackberry, cherry, fig. Ginger snap, black pepper, cayenne. A savoury, maritime thread: brine, tobacco leaf, smoked herbs. The sherry casks add chewiness and depth, giving the whisky a “dark‑glow” sweetness beneath the peat.
Finish - Long, warming, and richly smoky. Tar, coffee, dark chocolate, and lingering sweet dried fruit taper into a final echo of spiced oak and coastal peat.
A brooding, sherry‑charged Ardbeg with a dramatic interplay of dark fruit, chocolate, spice, and deep coastal smoke. More shadowy and savoury than the standard Dark Cove release — the Committee bottling is richer, hotter, and more intense.
A powerful, limited Committee Release marrying deep sherry richness with Ardbeg’s iconic coastal peat. Expect dark chocolate, dried fruit, smoked ham, espresso, and smouldering embers — a brooding, atmospheric Islay malt with real depth and swagger.
