The longest fermentation in Ardbeg’s history — 3 weeks — due to a distillery boiler breakdown.
A once‑in‑a‑lifetime accident turned into a cult bottling: wildly fruity, deeply complex, and still unmistakably Ardbeg.
Appearance - Bright golden straw, with a fine, oily sheen and slow, elegant legs.
Nose - A riot of fermentation‑driven fruit layered over clean Ardbeg smoke.pineapple, guava, papaya, fermented mango. Lemon zest, grapefruit oil. Sweet malt & vanilla from ex‑bourbon casks. Charcoal dust, kiln smoke, toasted herbs. Yoghurt tang, sourdough starter, orchard cider. A coastal thread of sea spray and iodine. One of the most fruit‑forward noses Ardbeg has ever produced.
Palate - Silky, bright, and explosively fruity, with smoke woven through. Pineapple syrup, ripe peach, green banana, grilled citrus. Vanilla cream, honeyed malt, and toasted oak. Charcoal, smoked barley, ember heat.
Fermentation complexity: kefir, tangy yoghurt, wild‑yeast funk. Pepper spice and a clean, mineral edge. A fascinating interplay of tropical sweetness, tangy acidity, and soft peat.
Finish - Long, bright, and gently smoky.Citrus peel, pineapple skin, vanilla pod. Dry peat ash, charcoal, and a faint lactic tang. A final echo of tropical fruit and oak spice.
