Ardbeg ‘Supernova’ – Committee Release
Islay • Ultra‑Heavily Peated • 55–60% ABV (varies by year)
One of the smokiest whiskies Ardbeg has ever bottled.
Appearance - Pale straw‑gold, almost white‑wine bright — classic for intensely peated Ardbeg matured in ex‑bourbon casks.
Nose - Explosive, medicinal, and interstellar in intensity. Kiln reek, bonfire ash, scorched driftwood. Iodine, antiseptic, smoked herbs. Lemon oil, grapefruit zest. Vanilla pod, barley sugar, toasted marshmallow. Wet peat, sea spray, cold charcoal, mineral dust. A nose that feels like standing in the blast radius of an Ardbeg kiln.
Palate - Huge, oily, and ferociously smoky — the defining Supernova signature. Charcoal dust, burning heather, ember heat. Vanilla cream, honeyed malt, white chocolate. Lime peel, cracked pepper, chilli warmth. Smoked seaweed, brine, tarred rope. thick, oily, mouth‑coating, with a rising medicinal intensity
Supernova is always about power + precision — smoke wrapped around bright citrus and sweet malt.
Finish - Long, elemental, and unmistakably Ardbeg. Peat ash, charcoal, iodine, salted citrus. A lingering sweetness of vanilla and barley sugar. A final echo of smouldering embers and ozone‑like minerality.
