The Château du Breuil 15 Year Old Calvados Pays d’Auge is a beautifully matured apple brandy that exemplifies the elegance and depth of Normandy’s finest terroir. Aged for a minimum of 15 years in French oak and double-distilled in copper pot stills, it offers a refined, complex profile that bridges orchard freshness with aged richness.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Light amber with golden hues, showing clarity and depth from extended oak aging.
Nose: Fragrant and floral, with vibrant aromas of apple blossom, violet, and baking spice. Underlying notes of oak, vanilla, and a hint of leather add maturity and warmth.
Palate: Expansive and rounded, with flavors of warm apple strudel, caramelized sugar, and toasted spice. A touch of coffee, nutmeg, and soft tannins provide structure and complexity. Balanced by a fresh acidity that keeps the profile lively and elegant.
Finish: Generous and lingering, with echoes of baked apple, cinnamon, and a faint earthy dryness.
Regional & Production Notes
Pays d’Auge is the most prestigious appellation in Calvados, akin to Grande Champagne in Cognac. Château du Breuil distills only from apples grown in this region, many from its own orchards. The distillery, founded in 1954, is housed in a historic château with deep ties to Normandy’s culinary heritage.
