The Château du Breuil Réserve des Seigneurs X.O. 20 Year Old Calvados Pays d’Auge is a masterfully aged apple brandy that exemplifies the elegance and depth of Normandy’s finest terroir. Aged for two decades in French oak, this X.O. expression is crafted from double-distilled cider made exclusively from apples grown in the Pays d’Auge—the most prestigious Calvados appellation.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep amber with golden reflections, showing richness and long maturation.
Nose: Intensely aromatic, with layers of baked apple, dried apricot, and candied orange peel. Notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and spice box—nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon—emerge with time. A subtle hint of tobacco, walnut, and leather adds aged complexity.
Palate: Full-bodied and velvety, with flavors of apple tarte Tatin, caramelized sugar, and dark honey. Oak tannins provide structure, while spice, dried fruit, and a touch of coffee deepen the profile. Balanced acidity keeps it lively despite its richness.
Finish: Long and warming, with lingering notes of baking spice, toffee, and a faint earthy dryness. A whisper of smoke and rancio (oxidative nuttiness) may appear with aeration.
