“A Complete Revelation” – 4 Years Old**
Single Grain Whisky – Japan (Chita Distillery)
ABV: 58.3% (Cask Strength)
Cask: Virgin Oak Puncheon
Bottles: 622
Style: Intensely aromatic, sweet‑spiced, fruit‑bright Japanese grain with bold virgin‑oak character
Appearance - Dark gold with a warm, syrupy sheen — unusually rich colour for a young grain, reflecting the virgin‑oak puncheon.
Nose - “pungent, intense vanilla, lychee and oak… white peach, citrus, ginger, marshmallow, light red berries, toffee”. Intense vanilla and fresh oak spice from the virgin oak. Lychee, white peach, pear soda, and light red berries. Citrus brightness — lemon zest, yuzu, grapefruit oilGinger syrup, marshmallow, and toffee. A faint solventy lift (nail polish) that’s typical of young, high‑strength grain. A wildly expressive nose — sweet, fruity, and spicy in equal measure.
Palate - The review notes “very smooth, elegant popcorn syrup, sweet oakiness, ginger… vanilla, lychee and citrus”). Popcorn syrup, vanilla cream, and sweet toasted oak. Lychee, citrus oils, and white peach nectar. Ginger warmth, light spice, and a touch of oak spike. A silky, almost syrup‑coated mouthfeel despite the 58.3%. Subtle notes of marshmallow, red berry sweetness, and toffee. It’s youthful but remarkably elegant — the virgin oak gives both sweetness and structure.
Finish - Popcorn, citrus with honey… mild oak… a bit dry”).Honeyed citrus, popcorn, and vanilla. Dry oak, gentle warmth, and lingering fruit sweetness. Medium‑long, clean, and lightly spiced
A vibrant, dessert‑leaning Japanese grain bursting with vanilla, lychee, citrus, and sweet oak. The virgin‑oak puncheon gives it both punch and polish — youthful, expressive, and genuinely distinctive.
A bold Japanese grain whisky matured in virgin oak. Intense vanilla, lychee, citrus, popcorn syrup, and sweet oak spice, finishing with honeyed citrus and gentle dryness. Bright, sweet, and beautifully expressive.
