Duncan Taylor “The Octave” – Dalmunach 2016 (5 Year Old)
Speyside Single Malt | Sherry Octave Finish | 54.8% ABV
Appearance - Deep amber‑gold, richer than a typical 5‑year Speyside due to the sherry octave. Viscous legs reflecting its natural cask‑strength weight
Aroma - A youthful but beautifully concentrated sherry‑octave nose: Sweet berries and soft orchard fruit. Vanilla and light caramel from the small cask’s intense wood contact. Hints of nuts and warm malt sweetness. A subtle thread of spice and gentle oak char
Palate - Full‑bodied, vibrant, and spicy at 54.8% ABV. Waves of sherry richness — raisin, berry compote, and toasted nuts
Finish -Medium‑long, warming, and sherry‑forward. Lingering notes of caramel, spice, and dried fruit. A final echo of vanilla and gentle oak
The octave finish accelerates wood influence, giving deeper colour and richer sherry tones in a short time Dalmunach’s naturally fruity, modern Speyside spirit takes well to this treatment. A limited, single‑cask release — typical outturn around 80–90 bottles
