Appearance: Dark reddish‑brown, almost black in the glass.
Aroma: Powerful herbal peppermint and spicy liquorice. Notes of mint, dried herbs, camomile, roasted bitter orange, and clove. Underpinned by deeper rooty, balsamic tones
Palate: Assertive, bittersweet, and intensely herbal. Layers of fresh mint, mint tea, camomile, citrus zest, and earthy botanicals. Additional flavours of menthol, buckwheat honey, clove, and pipe tobacco
Finish: Long, mint‑driven, and bracingly bitter. Lingering dried mint, spearmint, and subtle cooked fruit/prune notes
Made from a secret blend of 27–30 herbs and roots including gentian, camomile, saffron, rhubarb, aloe, cardamom, and myrrh. Aged for 12 months in large Slovenian oak vats, which helps integrate its intense botanicals.
Serving Suggestions
Classic digestivo: neat or over ice with a citrus slice
Bartender favourite for adding depth to cocktails
In Argentina: famously mixed long with cola (Fernet‑Cola)
A bold, uncompromising Italian amaro with explosive herbal intensity. Fernet‑Branca layers mint, camomile, bitter roots, citrus zest, clove, and balsamic spice over a dark, complex palate. Aged one year in oak for depth, it finishes long, minty, and defiantly bitter — a cult classic for bartenders, collectors, and lovers of serious amari.
