Here are the tasting notes for Murphy’s Premium Irish Whiskey, a lesser-known but historically rich blend produced by Irish Distillers in Midleton:
Murphy’s Premium Irish Whiskey – Tasting Notes
Nose :- Delicate and malty, with a soft toffee grain presence. Hints of saltiness, unusual for Irish whiskey. Light vanilla, caramel, and faint smoke
Palate :- Grassy and barley-rich maltiness dominates. Subtle wild fruit adds complexity. Drying oak and a touch of spice. Balanced but leans toward simplicity
Finish :- Lightly spiced, with lingering malt and vanilla. Smooth and pleasant, though not deeply layered
Blend RatioApprox. 50% 10-year-old malt / 50% 3–4-year-old grain
Described it as “a very enjoyable blend possessing admirable finesse,” noting a smoky presence that adds depth and tang. While it lacks the complexity of premium single malts, Murphy’s was once a respected competitor to Dunphy’s and targeted for use in Irish Coffee in the U.S. market
