Oldfield’s Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky is a rare vintage blend bottled in the 1980s by J. & G. Oldfield Ltd., primarily for the Italian market via Filippi Fausto & C.s.r.l. It’s a 750ml bottling at 43% ABV, and while only one formal review exists, it offers a vivid and layered sensory portrait.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Slightly fermented undertone with concentrated grape must, wrinkled apple skins, and dried sultanas. Hints of caramel, dusty grain, and faint malt. Floral accents reminiscent of rose water. Unusual but intriguing notes: mine gas, sauerkraut, and corn silage. A trace of butyric acidadds complexity without overwhelming
Palate: Very soft and honeyed, with mealy apples, sultanas, and caramel. Perfumed touch from rose water. Notes of malt, milk chocolate, and Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream. Subtle hints of old machine oil and a faint meaty undertone
Finish: Short and light. Brief floral moment followed by gentle oak and vanilla. Lingering notes of roasted sunflower seeds, honey, and malt
