Tamnavulin ‘Double Cask’ (40%, OB, +/-2018) NAS Speysid

This Speyside single malt whisky has an interesting backstory: it was the first release from the Tamnavulin distillery since the 1990s. Over the past couple of decades, the distillery changed hands, closed, and then reopened in 2007. Much of its single malt output is used in blends, but now they’ve got their very own expression! Here are the tasting notes:

Nose: Imagine a delightful combination of chocolate mousse, extra thick double cream with a dusting of brown sugar, stewed apples, blackberries, honey, orange liqueur, and caramel-glazed red apple, along with a hint of pilsner and nuttiness.

Palate: On the palate, you’ll find flavors reminiscent of Christmas pudding, chocolate brownies, yellow plum, and toffee-coated barley.

Finish: The finish is sweet, with a lingering spiced rum sweetness.
